Proper Gutter Install
Proper gutter drainage is important so to ensure that gutters drain properly, make certain they slope (½ inch for every 10 feet) toward a downspout. For gutter runs longer than 40 feet, it's best to pitch the gutter down from the middle to a downspout at each end.
To install gutters from gutter to drain, you can follow these steps:
Plan the downspouts: Generally, you should have a downspout every 25–40 linear feet of gutter. However, you may need more depending on your climate and rainfall.
Cut the downspouts: Use tin snips or a hacksaw to cut the downspouts where you marked them.
Attach the downspouts: Use screws to attach the downspouts to your house.
Dig a trench: Dig a trench for the downspouts.
Lay the downspouts: Lay the downspouts in the trench.
Install a drain: Install an in-ground drain pipe.
Add a filter: Place a PVC filter over the top of the T-connector.
Add gravel: Add pea gravel to the hole to help drain water.
Bury the downspouts: Bury the downspouts in the trench.
You can also consider these tips:
Divert water at least 4–6 feet away from your house, or further if you have basement walls.
Place gravel or rocks at the end of the downspout to prevent erosion.
Use a caulking gun to add sealant around the edges.
